    2. Getting a Norwegian Driving license

In order to begin your journey for the license you will need to go through a theory test, some practical sessions and finally a practical test.

    Norwegian Theory test

According to Vegvesen (spelled vei vey sen), one should go for the Theory test after taking the required practical training, however we recommend you to start reading the driving theory concepts much early in the start. As this ensures that you start to inculcate your mind on the rules and all the basics.

    Age

You can take the theory test atleast 6 months before the officially allowed age to get a license, i.e. if you are 17.5 years old or above, jump right in folks 😊. Buy here, snow mobil and moped are an execption.

    About the test

The test consists of questions about basic traffic rules, the road safety signs, allowances and prohibitions and your general driving knowledge. The questions which may seem easy will test your analytics and language skills for that matter 😊

    Type of questions

The test is basically a set of Multiple-choice questions. These questions can be simply text based or may present you a picture showing a scenario depicting what a driver should while do in a situation following the rules.

Total number of questions and passing criteria

The theory test consists of 45 questions, and in order to pass your test you will need to answer at least 38 questions correctly. If you fail, you can take another retest after atleast 7 days.

    If you failed the test

No worries, you can take another test after 2 weeks. Important is to check your test results, and ensure the areas you were weak in. you prepare them well for the next attempt.

ID proof for the test centre

Very important, that you bring a valid Identity proof for the test. Your Norwegian Residence card is not a valid identity proof, mind it. You may carry your Passport.

    Languages

The theory test is often available in multiple languages, including English and Norwegian.

Where and how to learn the Theory ?

Teoritentamen.no : Website and App, Their highly detailed theory course and user-friendly explanations to the Driving and Road rules are an excellent place to start building up your skills.

      3. Automated or Manual driving

Here’s a catch, you must choose which car you want to drive when you take the driving test. If you book your test to drive an Automated one you cannot drive a manual car, in that case you will need to re-book the test.

      4. Practical Driving test

The test ranges typically for up to an hour, or less if the person taking your exam is satisfied. Remember, your practice school trainer will not accompany you during the test. The traffic conditions, roads and variations will always be there.

      • There will be a pre-determined route you will drive on.
      • First, you will need to answer a safety check question before the driving begins.

Pro tips to pass the practice exam:

      1. Check everything in the car, adjust your seat, the left, right and top rear mirrors so you can easily look at the traffic backwards.
      2. Smile to the test inspector and stay calm, and let the test begin.
      3. Do not overspeed, not even 2-3 kms/hr, the practice test inspector will FAIL you.
      4. Do not drive close to the car’s forward, follow the 1,2,3 rule! Always keep counting the cars from an object on the road ahead, that you should only reach the position the car was on after counting 1,2,3.
      5. Do not get nervous at all, be confident, its not a crime to fail the test or to drive wrong, relax, and have fun. If you feel nervous the inspector will count that a negative too.
      6. Move your head while you look left , right in the mirrors and the one on top. Simply moving your’ eyes won’t make the test inspector believe that you really looked in the mirrors, even if you did. Show them you check before you move.
      7. At the round abouts DO NOT apply breaks, you will fail certainly if there are cars behind you, as that will certainly slow them down causing low fuel efficiency all in the trail.
