Skype is one of the great VOIP tools when it comes to Internet telephony or calls. As one of the easy to use features this is important to understand the Skype Credit feature which allows you to maintain a credit balance in your account just like a prepaid calling card or payment wallet.
What is Skype credit ?
Skype credit is simply an amount of money you can use to buy subscriptions , paid services offered by Skype. Its your money, just as safe as in a wallet. The amount of money you maintain as credit in your Skype account can be utilized any time you want to purchase service like sending SMS, or making a call to a landline or a mobile phone to anywhere in the world.

Its fairly easy to top-up the Skype credit balance while it take a few more innate steps to transfer your Skype credit to one of your friends Skype account or just about any other account, so without further ado lets look at the steps involved in the Skype credit transfer.
Transfer Skype credit
Once you have topped up / added Skype credit to your account, Skype only allows you to either use it to purchase any of its payable services or to transfer it to a Skype contact as a Skype Gift Card.
- To transfer Skype credit to a Skype ID, Add the recipient’s Skype ID to your Skype contact list, this can be a known contact or a friend of yours to whom you would like to send Skype credit to. Its important you have the contact in your Skype contacts list before initiating the transfer.
- Now go to your Skype account page, follow this address https://go.skype.com/myaccount and click “Send Skype Credit” link under the Add Skype credit button.
- On the next screen, select the Skype name or Skype ID of your contact you just added in Step 1 and you would like to send Skype credit to.
If you do not see the desired name in the list, try signing out and signing back in to your account page or re-do Step 1 and ensure you both see each other on your Skype contact list.
- Select a denomination of credit amount you would like to send. There is no lower or upper limit at the moment, but don’t be surprised if you see this in near future.

Don’t worry, Skype Credit will be exchanged to the recipient’s local currency automatically as per European Central Bank rates.
- Now select a gift card design you would like to send it as. This selection is free of cost, so fancy your choice 🙂
- Once you are done, click Send Skype Credit, or in case you do not have sufficient credit you will be asked to Buy Skype Credit if you don’t have enough Skype Credit to send straight away, so you’ll need to add more to your balance first.
- Once you have send the Skype credit the recipient will get the credit added to his Skype Credit account balance and will get an email about the transfer.
Important to note, that Skype credit is deemed used once its transferred, and you cannot ask it refunded from Skype. However, in case; just ask the recipient to send it back to you following from Step 1.
If you somehow do not happen to see the Skype credit reflecting in your or the recipient’s account try signing off and signing back in and check.
